WWII-Era Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollars

Here’s your chance to get a three-piece set of Walking Liberty Half Dollars from each mint—Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco—that struck the coin in 1945, the final year of World War and the year the world changed forever when U.S. planes dropped atomic bombs on Japan.

One Of The Most Beautiful Coins Ever Struck

Issued from 1916 to 1947, the Walking Liberty was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and gets its name from the iconic design of Lady Liberty striding across the face of the coin with the sun rising in the background. The patriotic “Walking Liberty” design is hailed as one of the most beautiful coins ever struck and is so revered that when the U.S. Mint introduced its American Silver Eagle bullion coin in 1986 it used Weinman’s iconic design! Weinman’s reverse design for the coin shows an eagle with outspread wings. That design was the inspiration for John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, when he created his “Heraldic Eagle” design that appeared in the reverse of the American Silver Eagle bullion coins from 1986 to 2021.
