1944-D Mercury Dime PCGS MS67FB
Quality World War II Mercury Dimes
While our brave soldiers were storming the beaches on D-Day, these beautiful 90% silver Mercury Dimes were lining the pockets of Americans. The Mercury Dime series was struck from 1916 to 1945 and the Denver Mint struck only 18% of the total mintage. That makes Mercury Dimes with the “D” mintmark highly sought-after. What makes the World War II-era Mercury Dimes we have here even more coveted is their amazing high quality. Each has been certified, graded, and encapsulated by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Superb Gem Uncirculated Mint State-67 Full Bands (MS67FB) condition, meaning not only are they high-grade, mint state coins, but they exhibit complete horizontal lines on the fasces on the reverse.
One Of America’s Most Beloved Coins
With one of the most classic designs in United States coin history, Mercury Dimes were minted from late 1916 to 1945. That design by Adolph A. Weinman was said to represent “Freedom of Thought,” a sense of liberty that emboldened us as we fought against the AXIS Powers in World War II. They were called Mercury Dimes because the image of Liberty on the obverse resembled Mercury, the Roman god of trade, profit, and commerce. In the century since it was first issued, the Mercury Dime has gone on to become one of America’s most beloved coins. In addition to its iconic design of Lady Liberty with a winged Phrygian cap that makes her look like the Roman god Mercury, the coin’s reverse depicts a fasces symbolizing unity and strength, and an olive branch, signifying peace. The image was so popular that when the U.S. Mint struck its first Palladium Eagle coin in 2017 it selected Weinman’s design!
