Beautiful 1922-D Peace Silver Dollars

The very first “Peace” Silver Dollar, so named for its introduction at the end of World War I, was a failure. Struck in 1921 and released to the public in the early days of 1922, its stunning high-relief design was notoriously difficult to strike. And so, soon after the calendar flipped over to 1922, the U.S. Mint re-designed the coin for a standard relief strike, and the rest is history.

An Unequivocal Collector Favorite

The last silver dollar struck for circulation in 90% fine silver, these coins celebrated our victory in World War I, became associated with speakeasies and big-screen gangsters, and were eventually rounded up and melted down. Today the Peace Dollar has become an unequivocal collector favorite. In fact, to celebrate the coin’s 100th anniversary in 2021, the U.S. Mint struck Peace Dollars in 0.858 troy ounces of .999 fine silver. The coin was received with widespread acclaim and, after a one-year hiatus due to the unavailability of silver blanks, the Peace Dollar returned in 2023!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • HIGH GRADE FOR BEAUTIFUL DETAIL – While lower grade Peace Dollars are often worn, those like these specimens in About Uncirculated (AU) condition are very attractive and still have lots of original mint luster that made them such a beautiful design when they were first minted back in the Roaring Twenties.
  • MORE THAN 100 YEARS OLD – Each coin in this offering is dated 1922, meaning they are more than 100 years old! They hail from a nostalgic era of silent films, flappers, raccoon coats, and boyish bob hairstyles for women. It was an exciting era that came to a sudden end when the Great Depression ruined the economy. Spending these coins became an absolute necessity to survive meaning few of them survived to today in nice condition.
  • HIGH SILVER CONTENT – Each coin is struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measures 38.1 mm in diameter
  • FAMOUS DESIGN – The design created by Anthony di Francisci, was the result of a contest for a new silver dollar that promoted peace following the end of World War I. The Italian-born sculptor used his wife for the model of Lady Liberty in his attempt to capture the spirit of his adopted country.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING PEACE DOLLAR – Despite millions of Peace Silver Dollars being struck from 1921 to 1935, most were lost in circulation or melted down in mass silver meltings. In fact, coin experts believe that only 16% of all Peace Dollars remain in existence in any condition today!

The 1922-D Peace Silver Dollar is the first standard relief coin in the series. Here’s your chance to get one in About Uncirculated (AU) condition. These coins fueled the Roaring ’20s and they’ll be the Bees Knees in your collection!
