The Iconic And Scarce $5 Gold Indian

Step into the history of U.S. coin design with this stunning $5 Gold Indian Half Eagle. Created at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt and struck from 1908 to 1916 and again in 1929, each coin was struck in 8.359 grams of highly pure 90% fine gold and features a unique incuse relief design. Millions of $5 Gold Indian coins were melted in 1933 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt recalled gold coins from the public.

One Of The Most Intriguing U.S. Coins Ever Issued

Designed by American sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, these coins featured a realistic-looking Indian Chief that was recessed or incused into the coin, making it one of the most intriguing U.S. coins ever issued. This combination of aesthetic appeal and historical significance has solidified the $5 Gold Indian as a beloved American coin treasure. The total mintage during the 10 years it was struck was only 14,078,066, making the $5 Indian the RAREST post-1908 U.S. gold coin. Each one available here has been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Select Uncirculated Mint State-62 (MS62) condition. Grading service will vary.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • ·     FAMOUS INCUSE DESIGN – Struck from 1908 to 1929, America’s $5 Gold Indian coins featured a design that was recessed or incused into the coin. Only the $2.50 Indians struck during the same period featured this same incuse deign, making them two of the most intriguing U.S. coins ever issued. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, his initials “BLP” can be seen on the coin’s obverse at the base of the Native American’s bust.
  • ·     STRUCK IN PURE AMERICAN GOLD – Each coin was struck in 8.359 grams of highly pure 90% fine American gold and measures 21.6 mm in diameter.
  • ·     LEGAL TENDER U.S. COINAGE – The denomination of $5 is shown on the coin’s reverse where it reads “FIVE DOLLARS” Below the talons of the proud American eagle.
  • ·     SELECT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your 1910-P $5 Gold Indian has been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in Select Uncirculated Mint State-62 (MS62) condition. Grading service will vary.
  • ·     SCARCE, HARD-TO-FIND COINS – Millions of $5 Gold Indian coins were melted in 1933 after President Franklin D Roosevelt recalled gold coins from the public in 1933. Millions more were lost to international business transactions where they were often melted or hidden away and forgotten in foreign bank vaults.

Owning this vintage 1910-P $5 Gold Indian Half Eagle is more than just adding a coin to your collection—it’s acquiring a piece of numismatic art in exceptional condition. Get it now in gleaming Mint State-62 (MS62) condition!
