1904-P $20 Gold Liberty Type III NGC MS62 Proof-Like
Still Proof-Like After 114 years!
Holy cow! You’d never expect a coin struck more than 100 years ago to contain so much luster. But this 1904 $20 Gold Liberty certainly does, graded in impressive Mint State-62 Proof Like (MS62 PL) condition by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
Generally speaking, when a new pair of dies is used to strike coins, they’re first given a high-polish treatment. This results in the first few hundred coins struck from the dies having a more reflective surface.
This coin must have been among these first few hundred stuck with fresh dies. Just look at its incredible shine! Its luster is so brilliant that it earned a Proof Like designation from NGC. In order to receive this coveted label, both sides of a coin must present reflective surfaces.
Consider that for a moment —this coin was struck 114 years ago, all the way back in 1904, and yet it still presents such incredible luster that it gained a “Proof Like” designation. High-quality Gold Liberty coins like this are truly something to behold—even the famous Smithsonian® Institution’s numismatic collection doesn’t have one of these brilliant pieces in its display. From the original mintage of more than 6 million, NGC has graded only 395 as MS62 PL. This historic piece is just a few grades away from the finest known. Don’t miss out!
- FINAL VERSION OF LONGACRE’S LIBERTY DOUBLE EAGLE – The $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles was the biggest circulating gold coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint. It was originally designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver James B. Longacre in 1849. The third, or “Type III” version of Longacre’s design circulated from 1877-1907.
- STRUCK IN FINE GOLD – Each Gold Double Eagle was struck 90% gold.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – These big gold coins have a face value of $20 and were used mostly in bank transactions or large purchases.
- EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH GRADE – Your 1904-P $20 Gold Liberty Type III Double Eagle has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) to be in Mint State 62 Proof-Like (MS62 PL) condition, meaning that even though this wasn't struck as a proof, this coin's brilliant and reflective finish has earned it a "Proof-Like" designation from NGC!
- EXTREMELY SCARE SPECIMEN – High-grade Proof-Like Double Eagles are very scarce with less than 2,050 known in existence compared to the millions of $20 Gold Eagles produced. The famous Smithsonian collection doesn’t even have one in its collection!
Only an exceptionally small handful of vintage Type III Liberty Head Gold Double Eagles exist in Proof-Like condition. Act now to secure one of these beauties!
