Historic Dime Set Remembers Pearl Harbor

Dimes have been part of American coinage for over 225 years. What you have here is a two-piece Dime Set that represents a large segment of United States-Pearl Harbor history, with the 1887 Seated Liberty Dime—the year the U.S. gained exclusive rights to Pearl Harbor—and a 1941 Mercury Dime—the year of the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. That propelled America into World War II

  • THE SEATED LIBERTY DIME was designed by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. It depicts a goddess-like Lady Liberty seated upon a rock holding a Liberty pole topped by a Phrygian Cap of freedom. Gobrecht’s Seated Liberty Dimes were struck for 55 years from 1837 to 1891.
  • HE MERCURY DIME FEATURES the iconic image of Lady Liberty with a winged Phrygian cap that makes her look like the Roman god Mercury. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the image was so popular that when the U.S. Mint struck its first Palladium Eagle coin in 2017 it selected Weinman’s design!

These decades-old, 90% fine silver dimes are in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition meaning they circulated in commerce. As a bonus, each Set contains a 1 Peso bill issued by the Japanese government to circulate in occupied Philippines, which was attacked right after Pearl Harbor. Don’t wait on this.
