1886-P $5 Gold Liberty Half Eagle NGC/PCGS MS62
Gold From The Statue Of Liberty’s Birthday
With the possible exception of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, no one is alive today that stood in the rain back on October 28, 1886 when the Statue of Liberty was dedicated in a ceremony attended by around one million New Yorkers. What IS still around from that eventful day are vintage $5 gold coins like the ones we have available here—fabulous Gold Liberty Head coins struck by the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia! Unfortunately, the number of those coins has substantially dwindled over the past 139 years. That’s because a nationwide gold recall in 1933 melted vast quantities of these beautiful and historic treasures into bars, forever removing the possibility of them ever being appreciated again!
Among The Highest Graded $5 Gold Liberty Coins In Existence
The coins we have available are among the best $5 Gold Liberties that remain in existence. They’re coins that survived two world wars, the Roaring ’20s, the Great Depression, and were witness to The Beatles, the moon landing, and the arrival of the 21st Century. They pre-date the official “closing” of America’s Wild West as well as the sinking of the Titanic. They even survived the 1970s disco craze! They’re that old! Millions more were lost to international business transactions where they were often melted or hidden away and forgotten in foreign bank vaults. Most of the vintage coins like these that are available today were hidden away from Federal agents and wouldn’t see the light of day until 1975 when President Gerald Ford signed a bill into law that repealed the limitations on gold ownership that had been in place for more than 40 years!
Mouthwatering Mint State-62 Condition
But old as they are, they’re still in mouthwatering condition. In fact, each had been graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Select Uncirculated Mint State-62 (MS62) condition nearly as fresh, sharp, and crisp as the day they rolled off the presses in 1886. A coin in this state of preservation means that it displays above-average luster and strike with no trace of wear.
Scarce And Hard-To-Find Beauties Of A Bygone Age
These are truly scarce and hard-to-find beauties of a bygone age. To give you an idea of just how scarce they are, consider that of the 3.65 million $5 Gold Liberty coins struck in 1886, just 388,360—a mere 11%—were struck at the Philadelphia Mint. And of those coins, NGC and PCGS have combined to grade just 563 in MS62 condition with only 210 specimens grading higher! The highest graded coin in the world-renowned Smithsonian coin collection is a MS63—just one point higher! Quality and scarcity are always driving factors for collectors, and with only limited supplies available, you’ll want to act fast and get yours now while we still have some in stock!
