Despite having a fairly high original mintage of 10.71 million coins, the 1886-O Morgan remains rather elusive, with a large portion of the mintage being unaccounted for. It’s believed that a large portion of the mintage was melted under the Pittman Act of 1918, but it remains a mystery! Whatever the reason, these coins are a great find in Very Fine (VF) condition, since coins in MS60 condition are currently valued by NGC’s Price Guide at $1,100!
