Civil War Obsolete Small Change Set
When the Civil War broke out across the United States, circulating change quickly disappeared from commerce. In order to make up for the shortage, the U.S. Mint began striking Two Cents pieces in 1864, featuring a shield on the obverse and a wreath of wheat on the reverse. This was also the first coin to feature the motto “In God We Trust!” The following year, another big change happened, when the U.S. Mint replaced the silver three-cent piece, known as the Trime, with a new Three-Cent Nickel struck out of base metal. This coin features Liberty on the obverse and a wreath with the Roman numeral III on the reverse. This set brings together a first-year Three-Cent Nickel as well as a second-year Two Cents piece, both in Very Fine (VF) condition. You’ll also receive a genuine Confederate States of America (CSA) Bond, printed to help raise money for the Confederacy.
