First 50 Cent Confederate Paper Currency
In 1861, the Civil War erupted between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. Two years later, the South printed and circulated the first of two 50-cent paper currency notes. The smallest denomination note printed during the war, it was created to help with the shortage of coinage being experienced at the time. Beautifully designed, this note features a prominent a roman-style bust of Confederate President Jefferson Davis on the obverse paired with an ornate blue reverse. Each note comes hand-signed by the wife of a Confederate officer!
