120-Year-Old Seated Liberty Dime Love Tokens!
The term “love token” in this case refers to vintage 90% silver Seated Liberty Dimes that have been engraved with designs, initials, or various messages. These “Love Tokens” gained popularity during the Civil War when homesick soldiers had time between battles to sit by the campfire and carve their sweethearts’ initials into the coin.

Inscriptions and designs vary so no two are exactly alike. Your Love Tokens will range in date from 1860 to 1899—a period that encompassed the American Civil War and the Victorian Era. Each will be in Very Fine (VF) condition and may include a hole that was punched to make it possible for the piece to be worn like a jewelry as a locket, earring, or even strung together to make bracelets. Often, the person carving the design into the dime obliterated the entire reverse and etched his own personal artwork or heartfelt message to that special someone back home.
