Trime Time

Something unheard of happened in 1851. The postage rate went down from five cents to three cents! But there was a problem. At five cents, there was a coin to pay for a stamp. At three cents, it cost three bulky large cents. It was time for a new coin. Trime time. The U.S. Mint designed and minted its first-ever three-cent silver coin, called a Trime. And it was a big success. They continued minting them all the way up to 1873. It’s the smallest silver coin ever in the U.S., and it was carried in soldiers’ pockets all through the Civil War. We located a small holding of these special Trimes and you can now add this historic coin to your collection. Each is in Very Good (VG) condition. Hurry before they’re gone. Dates vary between 1851 and 1873.
