In 1794, the United States Mint struck its very first Silver Dollar, featuring Liberty on the obverse and a heraldic eagle on the reverse. These elements have remained the standard for every silver dollar since.

Struck in 1795, this second-year coin is an important piece of American history. It’s design, showing Liberty with wild, flowing hair, was used for only two years – 1794 and 1795. Later in 1795, the U.S. Mint changed to a “Draped Bust” design.

The original mintage of this coin was just 160,295 coins. Today, it’s estimated that only 3,945 exist in ANY condition graded by either the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). This particular treasure was graded by NGC as being in Very Fine-20 (VF20) condition, with moderate wear on its high surface features and its main designs still visible nearly 225 years after it was struck when the U.S. Mint was still in its infancy.
