1540-1590 Hungary Silver Madonna & Child NGC MS62
Hungarian Madonna & Child
Travel to the town of Kremnica and you’ll find a working mint that was established in the 1300s! Operations began soon after gold and silver were discovered in the local mines, and it was that very mint that struck this coin sometime between 1540 and 1590 under the rule of Hapsburg King Ferdinand I. It displays the Madonna and Child – an image that became a hallmark of Hungarian coins in the 1400s before the Hapsburg dynasty took hold. Though the dynasty followed the same path as many new rulers and redesigned the currency of their realm, there was no way they could remove this important religious symbol or the accompanying legend “Patron of Hungary” as the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is the Patron Saint of Hungary.
Known as Maddonnenmunzen to differentiate it from the earlier Hungarian “Shield Coins” struck a century earlier, the obverse displays the Hapsburg’s Royal Hungarian coat of arms. This Hungarian Silver Madonna and Child coin is widely recognized as one of the most revered coins of the Renaissance era. It’s an important piece of European and Christian history. Not only can your secure this important coin, but it comes graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in high-grade Mint-State-62 (MS62) condition!
Few of these exalted coins survived to today making this a truly scarce and coveted coin treasure that belongs in your collection. When you hold this coin in your hands it will lift your spirits – but only if you order it now before the spirit moves someone else and they embrace it first!
