The 2020 China Silver Panda Stamp Collection

This is an official release on behalf of the China Postal Service! 35 years ago, the China Postal Service began issuing stamps with attractive panda designs. These stamps were released over the course of 30 years — and now for its 35^th anniversary, a special set of silver “stamps” has been issued.

Each of these 10 silver planchets come struck in four grams of 99.9% fine silver in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. The designs have been separated by release date: the first six designed by Mr. Zuoren Wu, released in 1973, and another four designed by Mr. Meilin Han, released in 1983. These designs were the forebears and laid the groundwork for China’s immensely popular Silver Panda series!

This set is also a bit of “forbidden fruit,” as it was produced solely for the Chinese domestic market and was not intended to be disseminated outside of their borders. To secure one of these sets, one had to go directly to a China Postal Service location or bank within the country. Each piece in the collection comes in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and the entire collection comes in official China Postal packaging along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and an informative storycard.

What makes our securing these even more incredible is the limited mintage of just 5,000 pieces. China is one of the world’s hottest coin markets right now, with citizens only allowed to own gold since 2004. Plus, China accounts for nearly one-third of all the world’s stamp collectors!
