Gorgeous Set Of Crisp Uncirculated Confederate Currency Notes With Consecutive Serial Numbers

As you might imagine, federal funds were cut off to Southern States when they seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. And so, to keep its economy going, the Confederacy printed these $10 Confederate Notes. Here we have not just one note, but TEN with consecutive serial numbers—each printed in 1864 the same year that Union General William T. Sherman captured Atlanta and began his “March to the Sea,” campaign that assured President Abraham Lincoln would be elected for a second term.

The Last $10 Confederate Currency Note

These colorful notes were from the last $10 series issued by the Confederacy. The front features a popular vignette of a stampeding horse-drawn artillery caisson alongside Confederate Cabinet member Robert M.T. Hunter. The back of the note reads “TEN” in large intricate letters over a blue background—which gave these notes the nickname “blueback.” Amazingly, we discovered three sets like this with consecutive serial numbers! We have ONE of each set available and this one is numbered from 25132 to 25141.

When the war was over, the Southern infrastructure was in disarray, banks had no money to loan, the price of cotton fell drastically, and confederate notes had no value at all. The U.S. never recognized the Confederate States of America as a legitimate government, so the money, stocks, and bonds printed by the Confederacy had no value, and could not be transferred into U.S. funds. Almost every Confederate Note was painstakingly hand-signed.
