Great Britain’s Famous Gothic Crown Serves As Inspiration For Ten-Ounce Silver Bar

Great Britain’s Gothic Crown coin is one of the most coveted British coins in existence, and for good reason! First struck in 1947, it features a regal image of Queen Victoria along with the intricate English Coat of Arms, a stunning design that is still admired today for its representation of Victorian-era artistry, symbolizing both royal authority and national pride. Only 8,000 were originally struck, making it a scarce coin that few collectors ever even get the chance to own. It also serves as the inspiration for this precious metal bar struck in ten Troy ounces of highly pure 99.9% fine silver.

Struck In Brilliant Uncirculated Condition

The beautifully designed bar measures 90.02 mm x 51.92 mm and features Gothic Crown design elements from the British Coat of Arms on the obverse including three lions passant guardant and a beautifully detailed harp, symbols of British heraldry. The reverse showcases an iconic effigy of Queen Victoria, surrounded by regal detailing and the Order of the Garter emblem, embodying the grandeur of the British monarchy. It also comes in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition that features the designs struck in razor-sharp detail.

Based On One The Most Beautiful British Coins Ever Minted

One of the world’s most sought-after designs, the Gothic Crown was first issued during the 10th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign. It was designed by William Wyon, who was a Second Engraver at the Royal Mint from 1817 to 1828, and chief Engraver until his death in 1851. Wyon’s Gothic Crown design is among the most beautiful British coins ever minted. It was intended for a new British silver crown that would feature an update of the “Young Head” effigy of Victoria that was struck at the beginning of her reign in 1837. The new portrait showed Victoria sumptuously clothed in intricately detailed robes wearing the famous St. Edward’s Crown used in the coronations of English monarchs since the time of Charles II.
